Disregard for COVID Protocols Put IISJ Students at Unnecessary Risk
For the past two years, IISJ, along with the rest of the world, has been trying to adjust to the pandemic. Despite constant reminders from teachers and other adults, some students still find it difficult to understand the severity of the situation. I am asking you to consider your fellow classmates when you ignore these reminders.
Because of this lack of concern, some students fail to open the windows in their classrooms. It could be due to the warm weather and they want to keep the cool air from the air conditioners from escaping. Another reason could be that they simply forgot.
Not maintaining social distancing is another reminder students ignore. Maybe they think that social distancing won’t reduce the risk of COVID when they have to stay in the same classroom every day. At the same time, students may find it difficult to social distance because of the small classrooms.
…I’m still disappointed to see the lack of effort put into following these protocols by the student body.”
— Mia Hoshino
I understand that since many students are now partially or fully vaccinated, the feeling of fear and urgency has died down. But I’m still disappointed to see the lack of effort put into following these protocols by the student body. Although it can be tedious and difficult to adhere to these guidelines, it is imperative that students do so.
It is important to keep in mind that not everyone in the School has been vaccinated and your actions have an impact on others. Properly following the protocols put in place not only protects the person following them but the whole student body.
Some day, life will go back to normal. Let’s do our part to make it happen sooner than later.

My name is Mia Hoshino and I’m in the 11th Grade. My hobbies are cooking and petting my dog.
